- The Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) program leads to New York State certification in physical education (K-12). The department recommends that candidates interested in teaching in NYS obtain dual certification in physical and health education, but this major may be of interest for candidates who plan to teach in a state where dual certification in PE/Health is not important or for those only interested in teaching physical education. Teacher candidates interested in this single certification program should meet with the program director to discuss further.
