A checklist is the list of requirements to complete this program and receive the award, as the college publishes it in its catalog. It is the same for everyone. It does not say what you have completed; that comes from applying your own record.

- Description
- Computational biology is the study of biological systems through computational and statistical modeling of large data sets. Through this program, students gain knowledge in biology, computer science, and information technology. This degree program is designed to prepare students for admission to graduate or professional school. The philosophy behind it is to leave as many options as possible to the student. This flexibility is essential for those students who have specific interests and goals other than those spelled out in more traditional curricula. This curriculum requires a minimum of 128 credit hours.

- Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) Core Electives: A total of 24 credits of HASS Core Electives should be taken. Students should take an Inquiry course during their first year. For a listing of HASS Inquiry courses go to: https://info.rpi.edu/hass-inquiry. In addition, students should take a HASS Communications Intensive course during their first three semesters. Not resolved to a course
- Students who apply Advanced Placement credits in place of BIOL 1010 and BIOL 1015 may take BIOL 2120 and BIOL 2125 in its place. Not resolved to a course
- Students must take 1 of the following Laboratory courses alongside BIOL 1010 : and BIOL 1015 or BIOL 1016 . Biology, Biochemistry and Biophysics, Biological Neuroscience, and Computational Biology majors are recommended to register for BIOL 1015 . Biology, Biochemistry and Biophysics, Biological Neuroscience, and Computational Biology majors who posses thorough wet-lab experience and an interest in enhancing their data analysis skills are recommended to register for BIOL 1016.Not resolved to a course
- CSCI 1100may be taken in another semester depending on individual student schedule. A HASS Course or Free Elective should be taken instead if CSCI 1100 is not taken Spring of First Year. Not resolved to a course
- Advanced Lab Option: BIOL 4720 or BIOL 4320. The Advanced Lab Option fulfills the Communication Intensive and Culminating Experience requirements. Cannot by satisfied with transfer credits. Each Advanced Lab option is normally only offered in certain semesters within the academic year; it is important to plan accordingly. Not resolved to a course
- Focus courses. Students must choose a focus, among 1. Biomolecular Systems or 2. Ecological Systems and must complete 20 credits of course work within the focus, including required and elective courses (see below). Not resolved to a course
- Senior Research Thesis (BCBP 4990 or BIOL 4990 ) is recommended; however, students may substitute any additional 4000-level elective course from either focus (see below). Not resolved to a course
- These courses should be completed by the end of the second year / fourth semester. ADMN 1030 (or equivalent) is recommended as a prerequisite to ILEA 4400 (or equivalent). While both courses may be taken in any semester, the suggested sequence should be followed when possibleNot resolved to a course
