- Description
- This interdisciplinary program (co-sponsored by American/Media Studies) will provide students with a foundational background in media literacy in Spanish, as well as the knowledge and skills necessary to create media content for both the conventional television industry and the new digital media ecosystem. Upon completion of this minor, students will be able to create Spanish-language media content in the fields of journalism, TV and podcast serial fiction, and documentary filmmaking based on a deep understanding of the connection between languages, cultures, and the communities they represent. This program will also provide an overview of research methods for Latinx and Spanish-language media activism to help organizations use media effectively to meet their objectives of social change. Students will acquire the applied skills necessary to create media content and communication strategies which effectively reach the Latinx segment of the population in the United States, as well as broader audiences in Latin America and Spain. This minor in Latinx and Spanish-language Media Creation is ideal for students who are proficient in Spanish language, especially heritage speakers. It can be a valuable credential for students majoring in or considering a career in media, government, politics, social work, business, advertising, marketing, public relations, education, or community advocacy. The program will educate students to think critically about all aspects of media creation, with a particular focus on the Spanish-language media ecosystem and the Latinx communities.
