- School of Social and Behavioral Sciences The Addiction Treatment and Recovery specialization is designed for graduate program counseling students who want to increase their knowledge of substance abuse, addiction, and compulsive behaviors. Students will expand their knowledge of addiction theory and treatment and intervention for individuals and groups. The curriculum also emphasizes developmental considerations and ethical and legal issues associated with providing treatment/interventions. Students complete two foundational addiction courses and choose two out of three other courses specific to work with addiction and recovery. This specialization is available to MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling students and is completed as part of an entry level CACREP-accredited program curriculum.
