| transfer_credit | 2026-2027 Catalog 237 Credit from External Sources Overview Ithaca College accepts transfer credits to be applied towards undergraduate degrees, as described in this section. Additional information regarding the awarding of transfer credits is described below. Information on submitting documentation to be awarded transfer credits can be found on the Office of the Registrar website. Transfer students who would like a reevaluation of their awarded transfer credits should complete the Petition for Transfer Credit form on IC Workflow for each course they wish to have reevaluated. Transfer from Another Institutionally Accredited Institution A student who transfers to Ithaca College from another accredited college or university may be granted credit for all courses satisfactorily completed with a grade of C- or better, except that transfer students must in all cases meet the same requirements as Ithaca College students in a given program. For example, if a particular course in the major area of study must be passed with a grade of B or better, transfer students will be required to meet that standard. Transfer from a Non-Institutionally Accredited Institution Review and approval of the appropriate department chairperson or designee is necessary to accept courses for transfer credit for prospective students who attended institutions that are not accredited by an institutional accreditor recognized by the U.S. Credit by Examination Ithaca College, at the discretion of the student’s dean or designee, accepts credit from other established sources, such as Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), General and Subject Examinations, Cambridge Assessment Exams, International Baccalaureate (IB), and educational experiences in the armed services. Ithaca College accepts transfer credit for military coursework. | 2026-2027 | catalog.ithaca.edu | |

Students can petition to have such courses applied to their ICC requirements by submitting a Petition for Transfer Credit form. Information for All Students Credit from External Sources and the Integrative Core Curriculum All students may apply credits earned at other institutions, or granted on the basis of AP/IB/CLEP/A-Level scores, toward the following Integrative Core Curriculum (ICC) components, provided the IC equivalent course carries the corresponding ICC attribute as published in this catalog: • Academic Writing (fulfilled by WRTG 10600) • Quantitative Literacy (QL) • Diversity (DV) • Writing Intensive (WI) • Creative Arts Perspective (CA) • Humanities Perspective (HM) • Natural Sciences Perspective (SC) • Social Sciences Perspective (SO) Where the IC equivalent course already carries the appropriate attribute, ICC fulfillment is recognized automatically; no separate ICC Designation Petition is required for ICC fulfillment. Some graduate programs may have more restrictive policies regarding coursework that can be accepted for transfer credit. Transferable credits must have been earned not more than four years before matriculation, and no more than six credits may be transferred and applied toward a graduate degree. Grades earned in transferred courses are not applicable to the graduate cumulative GPA. Students who have matriculated and who wish to earn graduate credit elsewhere for transfer to Ithaca College should obtain approval in writing from the graduate chair or program director and the dean before registering for a course intended for transfer. Students must submit the request Petition for Transfer Credit form online.
