No individual course may count for more than one Core category No individual course may be counted toward the Art, Design, and Technology; Cultural Exploration and Analysis; Data and Discovery; or Structures of Thought and Society Core requirements and simultaneously toward a major or minor. Transfer Credit and Articulation Agreements Transfer Credit On an exceptional basis, NYU Abu Dhabi will consider awarding undergraduate credit for courses taken at other universities. Transfer credit, however, is awarded on a limited basis and only for courses taken after matriculation at NYU Abu Dhabi. While a student may be awarded transfer credit, these credits cannot be used to reduce the total number of required semesters of enrollment. Transfer credit is not possible for graduate degrees. Students on leave of absence and/or considering enrolling at another institutional for transfer credit to be used toward their NYU/NYUAD degree, must request approval for a transfer credit evaluation BEFORE enrolling in any external coursework. If a review from NYUAD is not completed before the start of the external courses, transfer credit will not be approved. Students should allow 4-6 weeks for the university to review any transfer credit requests. Transfer credit for courses taken before matriculation/starting at NYU/NYUAD is not allowed. Students need to complete a Transfer Pre-approval Form prior to enrolling in another institution to assure that courses will be counted toward graduation requirements. Transfer Credit Final Approval Form must be filed with the Registrar and are evaluated by an appropriate subcommittee of the Transfer Credit Review Committee based on academic merit, appropriateness to the NYUAD curriculum, and the degree to which the courses are distinct from other coursework that the student has completed or will complete at NYU Abu Dhabi. Please note the following: Undergraduates must complete a transfer credit request request BEFORE taking courses at a college or university other than NYU (this request should be submitted no later than two months before the start of the course as it can take several weeks for coursework to be reviewed by the academic departments). The university is not able to provide letters of support for transfer credit and the student must navigate any visa, admissions requirements, financial payments, etc on their own. Advanced Standing NYU Abu Dhabi does not award transfer credit for high school coursework or for external assessments, such as AP or IB exams. Advanced standing is at the discretion of the Academic Dean of the appropriate divisional area in consultation with the faculty in the discipline. There is no presumption that advanced standing is available in all disciplines. While advanced standing can be used to place into an entry-level course, it does not reduce the total number of courses required in any program and does not transfer into the NYUAD academic record. NYUAD does not maintain a record of any advanced standing results.

The LS Advising and Student Affairs Office also provides information to students about course selection and registration procedures, schedule changes and withdrawals, advanced standing credit, incomplete and pass/fail grade options, transition and internal transfer procedures, and co-curricular opportunities such as study away and internships, among other matters. All LS Core students are required to attend a registration clearance session and/or schedule an individual registration meeting with their advisor (depending on their intended transition program). For instance, LS Core students transitioning to Steinhardt’s Media, Culture and Communication (MCC) program are expected to have completed at least one of two MCC core courses by the end of their third semester in Liberal Studies and both courses by the end of their sophomore year, with a minimum grade of B-. LS Core students transitioning to Gallatin require approval of an academic plan for their individualized concentration during sophomore year, likewise completed by the end of their third semester in Liberal Studies.

Advanced Standing Credit by Examination (Including International Maturity Examinations) The Advanced Placement (AP) Program (College Entrance Examination Board), the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, and the results of some foreign maturity or leaving certificate examinations allow students to apply college-level, advanced standing credit toward the CAS baccalaureate degree, subject to the approval of the College. Any credits awarded must be compatible with the CAS liberal arts curriculum; e.g., no credit is awarded for examinations in studio art or business. Minimum scores and other policies are noted below, as well as course equivalencies (and applicability to CAS programs of study) that the College has approved. The maximum number of credits allowed toward the degree requirements of the College that are a result of any possible combination of nonresident special examination programs (plus previous coursework, if applicable and approved) shall not exceed a total of 32. Students cannot earn credit for the same subject matter in any combination of AP, IB, A Level, and/or other international exams. Note that advanced standing credit (whether AP or international) may be awarded for examinations in the subject of “English literature” or “English language and literature,” but is never awarded for any exam that is wholly in the subject of “English language.” The AP program is detailed further below. This overview begins with international examinations.

Advanced Standing Credits Advanced standing credits are college credits earned before entering NYU. Examples of advanced standing credits include those earned at other accredited colleges and universities before enrollment at NYU completed with a grade of B or better, and those earned through qualifying scores of 4 or 5 obtained on the Advanced Placement (AP) examinations. International Baccalaureate (IB), French Baccalaureate, Advanced Level (“A-Level”), Abitur, and certain other foreign maturity examination credits may also result in advanced standing credit. See Admission (Including Advanced Standing Credit by Examination) for a full list of approved examinations. Some courses taken at other colleges may not be honored by NYU. LS accepts a maximum of 32 credits of advanced standing.* For spring admits, LS accepts a maximum of 8 transfer credits earned during the gap semester prior to enrollment, and a maximum of 32 credits from all advanced standing sources (both transfer and testing) combined. While GLS accepts up to 32 advanced standing credits, the structure of the program does not allow for early graduation. The work reflected by advanced standing credits will not substitute for any of the required courses in the LS Core or in GLS. The only requirements that advanced standing credits may satisfy for the LS Core and GLS are mathematics, science, and potentially foreign language (depending on the student’s major). See Advanced Placement Credit and Global Liberal Studies Requirements for more information. Advanced standing credits must be submitted to the NYU Undergraduate Admissions Processing Center and are only then evaluated by the LS Advising Center. Students should request that official AP scores, college transcripts, and/or score reports for any other eligible examinations be sent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, 383 Lafayette Street, New York, NY 10003. AP scores may also be sent electronically through CollegeBoard. Students should also note that the various undergraduate schools and colleges at NYU have different policies on whether AP or other advanced standing credit will be accepted in fulfillment of major and other requirements. Students should consult with the LS Advising Center about advanced standing credits and how they will be counted. For detailed information on AP, IB, and A-Level equivalences, please refer to the AP/IB/Advanced Levels equivalencies charts in the CAS bulletin. In general, transfer credit may be awarded for satisfactory work completed at another accredited college or university upon receipt of an official transcript that demonstrates a qualifying grade. In granting credit, the following are considered: the content, complexity, and grading standards of courses taken elsewhere; individual grades attained by the applicant; the suitability of courses taken elsewhere for the program of study chosen for NYU; and the degree of preparation that completed courses provide for more advanced study at NYU. Advanced standing credit toward the degree is given only for a grade of B or better for courses completed prior to enrollment at NYU, or a C or better for courses completed once enrolled at NYU, provided the credit fits into the selected program of study and courses were completed within the past 10 years. In addition, quarter hours will be converted to semester hours to determine the number of credits transferable to NYU; and credits based on semester hours will be transferred at face value to NYU.

If graduate courses are applied toward the completion of requirements for the baccalaureate degree, no advanced credit is typically allowed for them in the University’s graduate programs. Students may take a total of 36 credits in other divisions of NYU, including any courses for particular minors approved by NYU Shanghai. Students seeking additional credits beyond the 36 credit limit must file a petition with their academic advisor. Please note that restrictions apply. For details, students must check with their advisor before registering for any courses in other divisions. If a course is not approved in advance, students will not receive credit for it. If such courses are taken at schools outside NYU, the credit will not transfer to NYU Shanghai. NYU Shanghai students only earn credit for courses taken within NYU's School of Professional Studies Cross School Minors, other SPS courses will not be counted toward major requirements, the GPA, or the minimum 128 credits required for graduation. Credit for internet and online courses from other divisions or schools of NYU will not be counted toward the baccalaureate degree unless approved by petition.

When an external transfer applicant is admitted to the College, the applicant’s official college transcript(s) is (are) examined carefully to determine how much, if any, advanced standing will be granted. In granting advanced standing the following are considered: the content, complexity, and grading standards of courses taken elsewhere; individual grades and grade averages attained by the applicant; the suitability of courses taken elsewhere for the program of study chosen at NYU; and the degree of preparation that completed courses provide for more advanced study in the College. Credits toward the degree are awarded only for transfer course grades of C or better, provided that: (1) the credits integrate into the selected program of study and (2) the courses were completed within the past 10 years. Credits based on semester hours will be transferred at face value to NYU. A tentative statement of advanced standing is provided to each external transfer student upon notification of admission to the College. A final statement of advanced standing is provided during the student’s first semester of matriculation. Requests for reevaluation of transfer credit must be made within the semester during which the final statement of advanced standing is received. Thereafter, a student’s advanced standing credits may be changed only with the written permission of the CAS Office of the Dean.

The total number of advanced standing credits a student may receive cannot exceed 32. Once a student elects to post advanced standing credits on the NYU transcript, they will become a part of the permanent academic record and cannot be removed. Advanced standing credit will count toward the total earned credits for graduation and may accelerate the student's time to graduation. Students should consider both the academic and financial effect of applying advanced standing credit. College Credits Taken in Secondary School by First-Year Matriculants in CAS (Dual Enrollment) Credit may be awarded to students who completed college courses while in high school (credits from either a community college or a four-year college or university are acceptable), provided that: they received a grade of C or better in the courses; an official transcript from the college or university is received; corresponding courses are offered at NYU; and the courses are applicable to a student's degree program requirements. Note that students who matriculate as first years will not receive any transfer credit for postsecondary expository writing courses, whether or not they were taken as dual enrollment. In addition, students matriculating in CAS as first years may be awarded credit as appropriate for previous college coursework (whether taken as dual enrollment or otherwise) and for Advanced Placement and other accepted exams in the social sciences and humanities, but these credits can not be applied toward any Foundations of Contemporary Culture requirements in the College Core Curriculum. Note also that students who enter CAS as first years may be awarded no more than 32 advanced standing credits; this limit includes both credits from Advanced Placement and similar examinations and previous college credits. Transfer Student Matriculants in CAS The College follows the University's Undergraduate Transfer Credit Policy. Dual-enrollment coursework (college coursework taken while in high school) is accepted with a grade of C or better, but cannot be applied toward any Foundations of Contemporary Culture requirements in the College Core Curriculum. All transfer students must fulfill the following residency requirement: They must complete at least 64 consecutive credits of coursework in residence at the College immediately preceding the date of graduation and are permitted to transfer a maximum of 64 credits to NYU. External Transfer Students When an external transfer applicant is admitted to the College, the applicant’s official college transcript(s) is (are) examined carefully to determine how much, if any, advanced standing will be granted. Typically, applications to transfer between NYU schools, colleges, or campuses are not accepted during or after the junior year. Note that advanced standing credit (whether AP or international) may be awarded for examinations in the subject of “English literature” or “English language and literature,” but is never awarded for any exam that is wholly in the subject of “English language.” The AP program is detailed further below. International Baccalaureate (IB) Program The College recognizes, for advanced standing credit, higher-level (HL) examinations passed with grades of 6 or 7. No credit is granted for standard-level (SL) examinations. All transfer credit must be evaluated by completing the transfer credit form on the Business Studies webpage in order to determine its applicability toward the minor. Please see an academic adviser for more information about transfer credits. Policies Applying to Track A Students may use Advanced Placement or equivalent international credit to satisfy no more than two out of these four requirements: Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Statistics, and Calculus. Students with advanced standing credit in three (four) of these areas must take one (two) additional course(s) for the minor, selected from the Stern courses offerings on the curriculum tab and/or MATH-UA 122 Calculus II. In addition, advanced standing credit in Calculus does not substitute for either or both semesters of MATH-UA 131 Mathematics for Economics I and MATH-UA 132 Mathematics for Economics II , although students may take a placement exam administered by the Department of Mathematics and attempt to place ahead in—or out of—this required sequence. Transfer Students Although CAS policy allows transfer students to satisfy up to one-half of the requirements of a major or minor with transfer credit, this is always subject to departmental review and approval of prior coursework and is not guaranteed. The Department of Economics will consider allowing transfer credit for the following to count toward the major on a case-by-case basis: Introduction to Microeconomics; Introduction to Macroeconomics; Statistics; and major electives at the ECON-UA 2xx level. Note that AP or equivalent credit can never be used for regression and forecasting or for any Stern courses. Transfer students on Track A cannot transfer in more than half of the required courses in economics and mathematics (i.e., two) and half of the required Stern courses in business (i.e., one) to count toward the minor; for transfer students, AP and other advanced standing credit is treated as transfer credit.

Policies Applying to Transfer Students and Transfer Credits Policies Applying to the Honors Program in the Politics Major NYU Policies College of Arts and Science Policies Program Policies Policies Applying to the Major Core courses in the major: because the four core courses (POL-UA 100, POL-UA 300, POL-UA 500, POL-UA 700) serve as prerequisites to many upper-level politics courses, majors are advised to take core courses early in their program of study. Subfield Courses (8 + 4 Credits): at least one course for the major must be taken in each of three of the department’s five fields of study (political theory, American government and politics, comparative politics, international politics, and analytical politics). The first two subfield courses must be completed at NYU Washington Square; transfer students who have already taken courses at the introductory level may petition the department to have these courses count as politics electives. The one additional (third) subfield course must also be taken at Washington Square and transfer credits cannot meet this requirement. It can be either an introductory-level or upper-level course. Note that POL-UA 8xx courses (the analytical subfield: research methods and/or game theory) and POL-UA 9xx courses (which can fall into different subfields depending on content) may both be used for the third subfield course, but POL-UA 970, POL-UA 990, and POL-UA 999 do not count. Seven Politics Electives (28 Credits): all courses taught in the politics department at NYU Washington Square qualify as politics electives, with the exception of POL-UA 970, POL-UA 990, and POL-UA 999. These courses count as CAS general electives. Although it is not required for the major, POL-UA 850 Introduction to Research Methods for Politics is strongly recommended. Students are advised to take it before enrolling in other advanced courses in the major. Students can use AP scores of 4 or 5 in Government-US and Government-Comparative to satisfy up to 8 credits of politics electives, but must request this online ( see the Politics Department Advising website ). Students majoring in Politics may double-count no more than two courses between this major and a second major or a minor. They must first secure permission from both the Department of Politics and the other major or minor department or program. See the Politics Department Advising website for approval. Students studying away at any NYU-affiliated Global site or at one of NYU’s International Partner Universities may petition (well in advance of studying away) to use courses listed or cross-listed as politics courses to satisfy up to 12 credits of politics electives. See the Politics Department Advising website for more information. For students following the American Political Practice and Leadership Track: of the three required upper-division courses in American politics, at least one must be taken at NYU Washington, DC, and at least one at the Washington Square campus. In addition, at least one must be in a subfield related to the student’s internship. Although this track requires an internship at NYU Washington, DC, it does not count toward the major. Courses at the POL-GA 1xxx and 2xxx levels are open to exceptional undergraduates with an adequate background in politics. Requires written permission of the instructor or, in the instructor’s absence, the director of graduate studies. Policies Applying to Transfer Students and Transfer Credits Students who wish to have a transfer course count as a politics elective must send the syllabus to the Department of Politics for approval ( see the Politics Department Advising website ). Department policy is that up to 20 of the required 28 credits in politics electives (which amounts to one-half of the entire 40-credit major) may be fulfilled with transfer credits, AP scores, and/or study away credits at NYU or International Partner sites. Transfer students already at this maximum must take the remaining 8 credits of politics electives in the politics department at NYU Washington Square. Transfer credit cannot be applied toward the requirement of three subfield courses. All transfer students must also complete one-half of all their courses in CAS (-UA). For students entering CAS from Liberal Studies, note that GWC-UF 102 Global Works and Society in a Changing World qualifies as a politics elective. This course will automatically be recorded as qualifying as a politics elective on students’ Degree Progress Reports.

After consultation with the director of undergraduate studies, transfer students may be allowed to apply up to five transfer courses (20 points) toward the major or up to two transfer courses (8 points) toward the minor. Note that although CAS policy allows transfer students to satisfy up to one-half of the requirements of a major or minor with transfer credit, this is always subject to departmental review and approval of prior coursework and therefore is not guaranteed. NYU study away/Global courses (e.g., NYU Abu Dhabi or NYU Shanghai) may be considered and treated as transfer credit, even for students matriculated in CAS.

Most begin their NYU studies at the campus in New York City, but a smaller group of candidates may receive the opportunity to begin their studies at one of NYU’s global academic centers in Florence, London, Madrid, or Washington, DC. Transfer applicants are not eligible for admission to the Liberal Studies Core; Global Liberal Studies does admit a select number of internal and external transfer students each year. Advanced Standing for First-Year Students Students admitted as first-years who have taken college courses while enrolled in high school should visit the Undergraduate Admissions website for details about advanced credits . College courses taken while the student was enrolled in high school will be evaluated and posted to the student's record after consultation with the student's advisor. Please note: The maximum number of credits allowed toward the degree requirements of the school are a result of any possible combination of nonresident special examination programs and courses taken at another college or a university while the applicant is in high school shall not exceed 32. Credit by Examination The Advanced Placement Program (AP) (College Entrance Examination Board), the International Baccalaureate Program (IB) and the results of some foreign maturity certificate examinations enable undergraduate students to receive credit toward the bachelor’s degree on the basis of performance in college-level examinations or proficiency examinations related to the School’s degree requirements, subject to the approval of the School. Please note: The maximum number of credits allowed toward the degree requirements of the s chool that are a result of any possible combination of nonresident special examination programs and courses taken at another college or a university while the applicant is in high school shall not exceed 32. Course equivalencies for AP Exams are available on the College of Arts and Science Admissions website . Maturity Certificate Examinations The results of certain foreign maturity certificate examinations, i.e., British "A" Levels, French Baccalauréat, German Abitur, Italian Maturità or the Federal Swiss Maturity Certificate, will be considered for advanced standing credit.

Receiving Credit for Courses Taken at Another Institutiontransfer_credit
Receiving Credit for Courses Taken at Another Institution Upon matriculation in the College students are expected to take all remaining coursework at NYU, including courses they need or wish to take during the summer. Students who would like to attend another institution and transfer those credits to NYU must first petition and receive approval from the College's Committee on Academic Standards. The Committee will review requests for the following scenarios: Off-Campus (Domestic) and Off-Campus (International/non-NYU study abroad) courses the student would like to take in the future. Transfer Credit: to receive credit for courses previously taken at another institution. Because the College and University offer a wealth of regular term, summer session, and January term courses in both New York and away (through NYU's Global Centers, NYU Shanghai, NYU Abu Dhabi, and a number of international and national exchange partners), students must use their petitions to explain how their proposed off-campus study integrates with and furthers their overall academic goals and completion of their academic program requirements. Students must attach a syllabus for each off-campus course they are requesting to take, as well as proof of departmental approval for any course(s) intended to satisfy a major or minor requirement(s). Before filing a petition, please note that the following College policies apply: The last 32 credits for the degree must be taken in residence at CAS. No off-campus credits will be granted for any courses taken at a two-year institution. No credit will be awarded for any grade below C or for grades of P, S, CR, etc. Grades for courses taken outside of NYU are not computed into the CAS grade point average. Students who register for courses other than those with prior approval will not receive transfer credit for them. Substitutions for CORE courses are NOT permitted.

Credit for Courses at Other Schools and Divisions of New York University NYU graduate courses may be taken with approval of the respective graduate program and NYU Shanghai undergraduate major and following the practices of that bulletin. Transfer Credit and Articulation Agreements Inquiries regarding transfer applications should be directed to NYU Shanghai Office of Undergraduate Admissions ( shanghai.admissions@nyu.edu ). Grading Policies on Examinations Preamble The following policies represent an understanding between faculty and student concerning an important but often stressful period, especially at the conclusion of each academic semester and at mid-semester. The grades for graduate courses taken at other divisions in the University are included in the grade point average, provided that permission to enroll is obtained prior to registration for the courses. Provide transcripts for any courses taken at other colleges or universities during the required leave even though academic credits earned during a required leave do not transfer back to NYU Shanghai. The duration of the leave generally will be a minimum of one academic semester, or an equivalent four month period, to a maximum of two academic semesters or the equivalent in months (8 months). Study Away Students are required to spend one semester studying at one of NYU’s global academic centers or degree-granting campuses or at an approved International Exchange Programs (IEPs).

Advanced standing credits must be submitted to the NYU Undergraduate Admissions Processing Center and are only then evaluated by the LS Advising Center. AP scores may also be sent electronically through CollegeBoard . Students should also note that the various undergraduate schools and colleges at NYU have different policies on whether AP or other advanced standing credit will be accepted in fulfillment of major and other requirements. Students should consult with the LS Advising Center about advanced standing credits and how they will be counted. For detailed information on AP, IB, and A-Level equivalences, please refer to the AP/IB/Advanced Levels equivalencies charts in the CAS bulletin . Students who place at a level below that which they have completed at another college will lose transfer credit if they repeat foreign language course work at the College of Arts and Science. NYU does not normally accept summer school transfer credits taken at another university. See Advanced Standing Credits for information on how coursework completed prior to enrolling at NYU may be counted for college credit. Online Courses LS will only consider transfer credits for online courses if they are earned by a student at an institution accredited by a U.S. P includes all passing grades (equivalent to D or higher), but is not counted in the grade point average. This will be granted upon the recommendation of a physician or therapist, as well as the NYU Student Health Center or the NYU Wellness Exchange . Program changes may also be requested based on medical conditions, such as individual course withdrawals or reduced course loads, upon approval from LS Advising.

Science courses are transferred at a grade of “B” or higher. Liberal arts courses are transferred at a grade of "C" or higher. Courses that are transferred carry no grade point value at New York University. There is a maximum of fifty (50) credits for transfer for the bachelor's degree and a maximum thirty-two (32) credits for the associate's degree. Applicants who have earned a dental hygiene degree will be evaluated for additional transfer credits (above 50 credits). Note: Credits are not transferred for courses taken more than ten (10) years ago. Transfer Credit and Articulation Agreementstransfer_credit
Transfer Credit and Articulation Agreements Gallatin may award advanced standing credit for standardized tests such as Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and Maturity Certificate Examinations, and also for college courses taken while the student was in high school. Please see below for limitations and a full explanation regarding each type of credit. Advanced standing credit will not be automatically posted to the NYU transcript upon admission. Instead, at the end of the sophomore year, and after consulting with their adviser, students may elect to post these advanced standing credits. Since the IAPC, rationale and colloquium deadlines may come sooner than originally expected as the result of applying advanced standing credits, students should consult their class adviser before submitting this form. If students are receiving financial aid, be aware that they may not be eligible for aid in excess of 128 credits. For more information about financial aid and advanced standing credit, contact the Office of Financial Aid (212-998-4444, financial.aid@nyu.edu) Students who have general questions about advanced standing credit should consult their class adviser. Students who need contact information about their class adviser should contact the Gallatin Office of Academic Advising at (212-998-7320).

Transfer Credits Transfer students may, with departmental review and approval, satisfy up to one-half of the requirements of the IR major (six courses/24 credits) with transfer credits. Note that POL-UA 700 and POL-UA 850 and two of the four IR environment courses must always be completed at NYU Washington Square. The only exception is for students who take an approved course equivalency for POL-UA 700 at either NYU Abu Dhabi or Shanghai. If a student satisfies POL-UA 700 in this way, the course counts against the maximum of six courses/24 credits the student is permitted to satisfy with transfer credits. (Note further that Abu Dhabi and Shanghai courses do not count toward the 64-credit residency requirement in UA coursework.) Students transferring from other universities or planning to study abroad at an International Partner University may check whether a course they have taken or plan to take satisfies the requirements for an IR course at the International Relations Advising Website.

Transfer Credits Undergraduate students may apply a maximum of 64 transfer credits toward the Gallatin degree. Included in this maximum are: all credits earned prior to admission to Gallatin from test/exam credit (e.g. Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, Maturity Exam Certificate, etc.) and courses taken at other accredited universities or colleges and NYU programs any pre-approved non-NYU courses taken while enrolled in the Gallatin BA Program Please note the following: No credit will be given for courses graded on a "Pass/Fail" basis. For undergraduate students, only grades equivalent to "C" or higher will be accepted for transfer. The amount of transfer credit will be based on the number of credits or points earned at the external institution, as well as the length of that institution's academic term. Course titles will not necessarily appear on the student's NYU transcript. Grades for these courses will not appear on the NYU transcript nor will they be computed into the student's NYU grade point average. Transfer credits that are more than 10 years old may not be transferable. Students who have transferred to Gallatin may contact gallatin.transfers@nyu.edu about the posting of their pre-Gallatin course credits to their academic records.

Transfer Credits Transfer students from other NYU schools are required to transfer in all graded credits taken at NYU prior to entering Stern with the exception of any advanced standing credit (AP, IB, etc.) that was automatically applied without their explicit consent at the outset of their original program. Internal transfer students may enter Stern with more than 64 earned credits; however they are held to the 144 credit limit so that any non-required credits earned in excess of that limit will be discounted from their degree. (See section above regarding semester course loads and credit limits). External transfer students can transfer in a maximum of 64 credits from their prior institution(s).

Although CAS policy allows transfer students to satisfy up to one-half of the requirements of a major or minor with transfer credit, this is always subject to departmental review and approval of prior coursework and is not guaranteed. The Department of Economics will consider allowing transfer credit for the following to count toward the major on a case-by-case basis: Introduction to Microeconomics; Introduction to Macroeconomics; Statistics; and major electives at the ECON-UA 2xx level. In no case may a student meet more than one-half of the major requirements with transfer courses, and in some cases students will need to retake certain economics courses at NYU and will lose this transfer credit.
