Grades of students who do not complete a course and who have not withdrawn officially will be listed as F. CROSS-REGISTRATION (PCHE) Full-time graduate students (6 credits or above) in good academic standing are eligible to participate in a cross-registration program through the Pittsburgh Council on Higher Education (PCHE), provided the course is open for cross-registration and the student has met the prerequisites. There are ten schools where Carlow students can cross-register: • Carnegie Mellon University • Chatham University • Community College of Allegheny County • Duquesne University • LaRoche College • Pittsburgh Theological Seminary • Point Park University • Robert Morris University • University of Pittsburgh TRANSFER OF CREDITS 6-12 graduate credits may be accepted for graduate credit by Carlow at the discretion of the department chair or program director. Acceptance of transfer credits is specific to each program. Transfer of credit into certificate programs varies by the program of study. The following chart provides guidance on the number of transfer credits accepted based on the total credits of the program. TRANSFER CREDITS and Advanced Standing Students who have completed an undergraduate degree in social work from a CSWE accredited institution, within the past 7 years and earned an overall GPA of 3.0 or above, are eligible for Advanced Standing which can award students up to 15 credits toward the MSW degree. Students in non-social work disciplines may be eligible to transfer up to twelve credits from a CSWE accredited master’s degree program, this is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The total credits required for the MSW/MBA program ranges from 60-87 credits depending on whether the student is advanced standing or traditional.

Carlow accepts transfer credits from institutions recognized as an institution of higher education or accredited by an association recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. A catalog or a copy of the course descriptions for all courses taken at an accredited institution outside of Allegheny County may be requested to assess transfer credits to be awarded. A transfer credit evaluation will then be completed to approximate if and how courses will transfer. See Transfer of Credits section for more information.

cumulative college GPA and must have completed the equivalent of PY-290 and SSC-321, with a minimum grade of B in each course, by the time they reach 75 credits earned. • Candidates for the health sciences major must have less than 24 transfer credits and possess a minimum 3.250 cumulative college GPA and a minimum 3.250 cumulative GPA in the sciences. Students may obtain credits by means of the following: Advanced Placement Program of the College Board, College Level Examination Program (CLEP), College in High School courses, Course Challenge or Credit by Examination, and the International Baccalaureate program. Carlow will also review additional types of credit for prior learning on a case-by-case basis and in a timely manner. Credits earned by any of these methods are considered transfer credits and subject to the 90-credit limit for bachelor-level degrees. Note: transfer credit limits are reduced for associate-level degrees. Course Challenge or Credit by Examination: Some courses may be challenged for either credit or exemption by passing an examination and/or by satisfying another means of evaluation.

Students with a bursar hold on registration cannot participate in course challenge or credit by examination. TRANSFER OF CREDITS Students transferring to Carlow from other institutions may have up to 90 credits accepted. Note: transfer credit limits are reduced for associate-level degrees. Only the credit is transferred, not the grade. A transfer evaluation will be done in a timely manner after a student is accepted and after all transcripts have been received. Once awarded, transfer credits are posted on a student’s official academic transcript, and how the credit is applied to degree requirements is viewable on a student’s program evaluation in Self Service. Students may be permitted to transfer a maximum of four classes or sixteen (16) credits from other universities, exclusive of cross-registration. Credit will not be accepted for a course if a student has not obtained formal permission from the advisor and university registrar/transfer coordinator to take the course. Students who plan to transfer credits from Carlow can check with the registrar to see if there is an affiliation agreement in place and check with the other institution to learn about their policies regarding transfer of credits before taking the courses. Credits earned through Advanced Placement, CLEP, College in High School, Course Challenge, Prior Learning Portfolio/Learning Counts, or International Baccalaureate cannot be considered as part of the residency requirements.
