INDP 100— Inter Professional Appreciation and Caring Communities0-1
The purpose of the course is for students from health professions programs work together to discuss and investigate approaches to solving health care-related issues as an interprofessional, collaborative team. The course spans the Fall and Spring terms of one academic year and consists of 2 modules per term.
The Interprofessional Education course is a 4-year longitudinal program that affords medical learners the opportunity to gain an understanding of how to function as a future physician and as a member of a healthcare team. In the first academic year, through a variety of interprofessional education events, medical learners will work with other healthcare professional disciplines to gain a better understanding of the roles, functions, overlap, and differences of each of these professions. Likewise, through this course, learners will gain experience to aid in working in a team environment, while developing shared values for patient-centered care with other professionals.

INDP 101A— Interprofessional Approach to Caring for the Community I15
The purpose of the course is for students from PCOM health profession programs to work together to discuss and investigate approaches to solving health care-related issues as an interprofessional, collaborative team. Topics will include medical ethics; ‘team-work’ and leadership in health care delivery; cultural competency; patient safety and medical errors; prescription and non-prescription drug abuse; and addiction. The 3-part series of courses consists of eight 2-hour sessions in Year 1.

This class involves the second year Pharmacy students working together with other students from different healthcare disciplines in a virtual general session on a patient case to discuss and deliver appropriate healthcare. Students meet in virtual small groups to solve health care–related clinical problems. The course utilizes discussion of clinical situations involving an interprofessional and team approach to clinical problem solving. With assistance from faculty and staff facilitators, students will work in small groups, to resolve clinical problems and cases. These cases will give students the opportunity to put into practice skills they learned in INDP -100G, and their respective programs. These skills include: clinical knowledge, communication skills, teamwork, ethical decision making, and cultural and religious competency.
