Academic Policies Transfer Credit Policy Carson-Newman University accepts transfer credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities. Our transfer credit evaluation adheres to principles and guidelines established by The Commission on Colleges and Universities. Transfer Credit Principles Course Level and Upper Division Requirements • Courses transfer with the credits and level from the original institution • Courses completed at the 100 or 200-level that transfer as upper division will count as content credit for the discipline but WILL NOT count toward the 36 upper-division credit requirement for graduation. • Deans or department chairs can make an exception by completing the Request to Review Transfer Credit for C-N Equivalency Form. • All grades for accepted transfer courses are recorded and computed into the student's cumulative GPA • Grades transfer on a 4.0 grading scale (plus and minus quality points are not computed) • Transferred quality points and quality points earned at Carson-Newman are used to calculate the cumulative GPA • Students must earn a minimum grade of ‘D’ for courses to be transferred. Some departments may require a higher grade before allowing transfer credit. Required Courses for All undergraduate Transfer Students: • Introduction to the Liberal Arts: ◦ LA-104 (Traditional Transfers) ◦ LA-167 (College of Professional Study Transfers) • Biblical Traditions: ◦ BTS-101 and 102 (Traditional students) ◦ BTS-367 and 368 (College of Professional Study students) Transfer Degree Requirements Acceptance of a prior degree must include at least one course in each of these categories: • Humanities and Fine Arts • Social and Behavioral Science • Natural Sciences and Mathematics Important Note: An Associate of Applied Science is not accepted to meet Carson-Newman Liberal Arts requirements, though individual coursework will be reviewed for transfer credit.
