| ENG 103 - Honors Composition | prior_learning | Students who complete this course with a grade of C or better will receive three credit hours for ENG 103 and an additional three credit hours in ENG 101 for prior learning in composition, and they will have satisfied the General Education Core Writing requirement. | 2026-2027 | catalog.utsouthern.edu |
| Graduation Honors | transfer_credit | Correspondence courses cannot be used to satisfy any portion of the residence requirements, nor can credit gained by advanced standing examinations. Transfer Credit Policy Once students enroll in a major at the University of Tennessee Southern, they must complete a Transfer Credit Request Form for any courses at other institutions if they plan to transfer credits toward a UT Southern degree. Students who wish to register for courses at another institution must complete a Transfer Credit Request Form, provide a catalog description, the dates the course will be offered, the reason the course cannot be taken at the University of Tennessee Southern, and any other information deemed appropriate by the Provost and/or Registrar before the request will be considered. | 2026-2027 | catalog.utsouthern.edu |
| Records and Documents Submitted for Admission Processing | transfer_credit | The optional essays are not required for admission; the individual scores on English, math, reading, and science are used for placement. Official transcripts are required to gain full acceptance to the University: Official copy of ACT or SAT scores High school transcripts A student who has earned college credits while still in high school (dual enrollment) and has not attended college after high school graduation is considered as a new freshman regardless of the number of hours earned through dual enrollment. Certain academic programs may have special core requirements that the transfer student may be required to complete. All courses from a regionally accredited college are accepted for transfer; however, depending on a student’s major, they may not all count toward a degree. If you are a transfer student from a non-US college or university, your transcripts must be evaluated by a third-party credentialing company (WES, InCred, etc.). Students are eligible to take 6 hours per semester as a standard; a cumulative 2.0 college GPA is required to maintain dual enrollment eligibility. Additional credit for training in formal service schools will be granted on the basis of recommendations in “A Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services” or the recommendations of the Commission on Accreditation of Service Experiences, which lists equivalents to specific University of Tennessee Southern courses. (See also Credit for Prior Learning ). Verification of Enrollment Montgomery GI Bill® Students who are receiving benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill®-Active Duty, Chapter 30, or Montgomery GI Bill®-Selected Reserves, Chapter 1606 must verify their enrollment through the internet WAVE application or from a touch-tone phone. | 2026-2027 | catalog.utsouthern.edu |
| Standard Academic Progress Standards | transfer_credit | This means that a student’s attempted and transferred credit hours cannot exceed 150% of the credit hours necessary for completion of their primary degree or certificate. | 2026-2027 | catalog.utsouthern.edu |
| Transcripts | transfer_credit | The amount of time that is required to earn one semester credit hour in a laboratory, fieldwork, studio, or seminar-based course varies with the nature of the subject and the aims of the course; typically, a minimum of two or three hours of work in a laboratory, field, studio, or seminar-based setting is considered the equivalent of 50 minutes of classroom-based direct instruction. Transfer Credits The University of Tennessee Southern accepts transfer credits from other accredited institutions or those which otherwise meet the requirements for transfer credit as defined by SACS-COC. Campus-change students who meet these specifications will not be required to take any additional coursework to meet general education requirements at the campus to which they are transferring; however, specific general education courses may be required to satisfy the requirements of the major or degree program. As such, transcripts of campus-change students will be evaluated on an individual basis. See Dual Enrollment . Taking Coursework at Other Institutions A UT Southern student enrolled in a program on campus must complete a Transfer Credit Request form with the appropriate signatures before registering for any courses at other institutions if planning to transfer the courses back to the University of Tennessee Southern. Students who enroll at another accredited institution of higher education and earn 12 semester hours of transferable credit, in good academic standing with their previous institution, and have at least a 2.0 GPA may be readmitted early on post-suspension probation. | 2026-2027 | catalog.utsouthern.edu |
