UNIVERSITY TRANSFER CREDIT A maximum of 50 percent of the course hours required to earn a graduate degree may be transferred from an institution accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the Department of Education. Prerequisite coursework that does not count toward the graduate degree may not be transferred. The University reserves the right to evaluate all transfer credits in terms of its own institutional standards. The transferability of credit to other institutions is at the discretion of the accepting institution, and it is the student’s responsibility to confirm whether credits will be accepted by another institution of a student’s choice.

Under the terms of these agreements, students may be granted a guaranteed admissions interview or early admission into the osteopathic medical college if they have met the following requirements: completion of all VCOM admission requirements, completion of prerequisite courses, a science and overall GPA of 3.5, sufficient SAT, ACT, or MCAT scores, completion of 80 hours of health care volunteerism and 80 hours of community volunteerism, and any other requirements outlined in the agreement. Prior Learning Credit Students can be awarded graduate credit for learning that takes place outside of the traditional classroom. Alternative credit can be earned in the following areas: 1. Credit for Certifications 2. Professional Training 3. Credit by Examination 4. Portfolio Credit for Certifications Students who seek credit for professional certification may do so by submitting an official certificate of completion or letter from th agency sponsoring the training. Credit by Examination At its discretion, the institution may award semester hour credits for mastery demonstrated through credit-by-examination. A maximum of 6 semester hours may be earned through credit by examination toward certain master’s degrees (subject to program requirements). To apply for credit by examination, students complete a Credit by Exam Request Form and submit it through MyBU. Credits earned through the credit-by- examination process may not be accepted by other institutions as transfer credit.

TRANSFER STUDENTS Students wishing to transfer from other colleges and universities will be considered for admission when they have submitted the following items to the Office of Enrollment Management: 1. A completed application. Transfer Credit Upon admission to Bluefield University, an official evaluation of transfer credit will be completed, to determine which courses will apply toward the student’s degree program. Transfer credit will be evaluated by the Registrar working in conjunction with the faculty. There is no limit to the amount of transfer credit that will be accepted as long as Bluefield University graduation requirements are met.

Prior to the student’s enrollment, an evaluation of transfer credit will be completed by the Registrar’s office and faculty to determine which courses will apply toward the student’s degree program and which courses will apply only as elective credit. The University reserves the right to evaluate all transfer credits in terms of its own institutional standards. There is no limit to the number of semester hours of work that may be accepted for transfer from institutions accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the U.S. A grade of C- or higher must be earned for a course to be considered for transfer credit. Students with Significant Career Experience Students with significant work experience in the major field who do not have an appropriate number of transfer credits may request the COR 10xx, COR 20xx, COR 30xx Career Development courses be waived by submitting a CV/Resume or a letter describing the significant career experience to the Registrar’s Office, which will then be forwarded to the appropriate College/School Dean. To be eligible for admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy program, applicants must meet the following criteria: 1. Complete a minimum of 72 semester credit hours of pre- pharmacy study in an accredited college or university in the United States, or the equivalency of credits from a foreign college or university whose transcripts are evaluated by Josef Silny and Associates, World Educational Services, or AACRAO International Education Services.

Transfer Credit for Teacher Education Transfer credit that is accepted by Bluefield University as elective ia credit may not be applicable to a teacher licensure candidate’s approved program for teacher licensure. As per University policy, “D’s” will not be accepted for transfer credit. All transfer credit for Teacher Education Program major/minor requirements must be a C (2.00) or above. Academic Policies Specific to the School of Nursing Transfer Credits Bluefield University School of Nursing (BU SON) will review student requests for transfer credit of nursing core classes on a case-by- case basis, and at the recommendation of the registrar. Official evaluation of nursing core transfer credits from other institutions should be presented by students expecting to transfer to the Bluefield University registrar. Transfer Review and Transfer of Credit Process Once an applicant has submitted all required materials and meets all stated conditions, their application and transcripts will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee for transfer consideration. If the review by the Admissions Committee determines that the resources exist and the applicant is eligible to transfer, the Dean will notify the Program Director to whom the applicant is transferring to ensure that the appropriate plans have been made and that no unidentified negative grades or behavioral problems exist that prohibit the transfer. All coursework will be evaluated prior to transferring and will be credited to the student only after careful review by the Admissions Committee. Each course will be evaluated as to course content, equivalency, and credit hours prior to credits being accepted. Transfer of Credit Credits will only be transferred from Anesthesiologist Assistant programs accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and recognized by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA) or their respective successor organizations. Transfer credits accepted toward the student’s degree program will be included when calculating the SAP credit hour completion ratio (in both completed [earned] and attempted hours) and the 150% maximum time frame. No more than one-half the total credit hours for a master’s degree may be transferred. Transfer of Credit Between MHSA Program Locations In certain circumstances, currently enrolled students of the MHSA Program may elect to transfer between campus program locations.
