Individuals are eligible for admission if they: Have graduated from high school or earned a recognized equivalent (e.g., GED or state-approved home school completion), or Are at least eighteen (18) years of age and able to benefit academically from college-level instruction, as demonstrated through appropriate assessment. Applicants who do not possess a high school diploma or equivalent may be considered under Ability-to-Benefit provisions, in accordance with VCCS policy, by demonstrating readiness through approved assessments. Documentation of parental permission is required for all dual enrolled students. An international student holding an F1 visa that has attended another college may be eligible for admission to Laurel Ridge as a transfer student.

Computer Competency Testingtransfer_credit
Individuals seeking IC 3 certification are required to take and pass all three IC3 exam sections. However, after passing the IC 3 exam, students neither earn college credit for exam certification nor fulfill computer competency requirements at transferring universities or colleges.

Computer Science Degree, AS (246)transfer_credit
Through Virginia Community College System agreements, students who graduate with the computer science associate degree and a minimum grade point average may obtain guaranteed admission to many of the commonwealth’s colleges and universities. Students who complete this degree will also complete the requirements for and may be awarded the Computer Science Career Studies Certificate and the Uniform Certificate of General Studies . Course credit may be awarded for industry certifications per the Credit For Prior Learning Guide. It is important for students to understand that credit for prior learning credit may not transfer to another 2-year college, 4-year college, or university.

However, credit may be awarded for them in specific situations: By completing the course at another Virginia Community College By completing an equivalent course at another accredited college or university outside the Virginia Community College System By earning a qualifying score on certain college‑level exams (for example an AP exam or IB exam) By completing another requirement listed in our Credit for Prior Learning guide. When credit is awarded, these courses may be applied toward degree or certificate requirements, just like courses offered by the college. Students do not register for the courses listed on this page. They are included to explain how previously earned credit may apply to academic programs. Credit for Prior Learning Guide For details, please refer to the current Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) Guide . This guide contains approved CPL course equivalencies, eligibility requirements, and instructions for requesting credit. The guide is updated annually in coordination with the college catalog. CPL requests are evaluated using the most current version of the CPL Guide at the time documentation is submitted. The course equivalents listed in this guide are informational only. The credits you receive are based on your program requirements, the documentation you submit, and, when applicable, the age of your credentials.

Practical Nursing, Certificate (157)transfer_credit
Must show proficiency in MDE 10 or eligibility for MTH 154 and readiness for ENG 111 . Graduation from high school or satisfactory completion of the certificate of general education development (GED or equivalent); Official copy of transcripts is required and, if applicable, must be translated to English by an approved translation service. Applicants are required to review and sign the “Essential Computer Competency Checklist.” Students without the required skill set are encouraged to enroll in ITE 152 , CSC 110 , or equivalent. Submit transcripts from other institutions to the Laurel Ridge Community College Records Office for evaluation for transfer credit.

Transfer of Credit from Other Postsecondary Institutionstransfer_credit
Transfer of Credit from Other Postsecondary Institutions Credit may be transferred only from colleges and universities that (a) are accredited by the Commission on Colleges or the Commission on Higher Education of the regional accreditation associations, such as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools or (b) conform to the requirements published in the Transfer of Credit Practices of Designated Educational Institutions by the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO). Credits earned at other post-secondary institutions either before or after admission to the college are reviewed and evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Credit may also be transferred from international postsecondary institutions, local examinations, standardized examinations such as College Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES Subject Standardized Test (DSST) of the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Educational Support (DANTES), Excelsior Credit by Exam (ECE), the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB), Advanced Placement (AP) program, Cambridge Advanced (A/AS) examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, and the Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT). Credit may be granted for prior learning for non-collegiate education, training, and/or occupational experiences as recommended by college faculty, the American Council on Education (ACE), the National College Credit Recommendation Service, or another college-approved organization. Credit by Experiential Learning is also a means of achieving advanced standing.
