4 Advanced Management Credits Storytelling plays a crucial role in our lives. We draw on stories to make meaning of ourselves and others, to shed light on our experiences, and to express who we are or would like to be. The same holds true for businesses. Storytelling is not only a core competency of business leaders but an indispensable component of functional organizations. Successful companies take pride in compelling stories; troubled companies tend to lack institutional stories and a culture of storytelling. Capable business leaders are effective storytellers, and strategic storytelling has been a proven means of turning struggling companies around. This 4-credit course invites students to uncover the secrets of powerful stories and effective storytelling in a wide variety of business contexts. It is designed to equip students with essential storytelling tools for launching and accelerating careers in sales, marketing, finance, or entrepreneurship. By listening to and critically analyzing compelling stories told by diverse voices across various media channels, we will engage with questions such as: What makes a story compelling? Why and how do successful companies rely on storytelling and story-making to shape their culture, strategy, and brand? In what ways can a well-crafted story spark engagement and organizational change? What qualities do impactful storytellers and effective business leaders share? And ultimately, how does storytelling become a form of leadership in itself? Credits 4
