Students learn the origins of Manhattan’s Chinatown in racist immigration and housing policies and explore how decades of organized resistance have challenged these forces for better conditions for workers, tenants, and community members. Students investigate the legacies of the Asian American Movement and how radical practices from that time are interpreted by contemporary activist groups fighting against gentrification and displacement.
