LDR 508Leading Sustainable Change3
This course positions sustainability at the center of the organization and provides students with high-impact sustainability leadership practices to drive overall organizational success. Using examples from current organizational and community needs, this course will consider and investigate how leaders envision and mobilize sustainable strategies to strengthen their organizations and the communities in which they are located with respect to the four pillars of sustainability: social, environmental, economic, and cultural.
Course examines the foundations, applications, and limitations of classical and contemporary social theory. The utility of social theory as a tool for orienting ones thinking and for understanding the complexity involved in organizational dynamics is emphasized. The ability to comprehend and apply social theory and related methodological techniques to problems as a way to emerge different underlying processes, systems, and forces, as opposed to focusing on mere symptoms, is a critical first step for developing robust solutions.
Course focuses on the knowledge, skills, abilities, other characteristics and behaviors, supported by theory and evidence-based research, required of leaders and followers to positively affect the leadership process of the individual, team, group, and organizational levels.
This course examines quantitative, qualitative, mixed-method, and action-based research designs to create positive organizational change. This course will touch on organizational and community involvement in the research process, the roles and power/positionality of the researchers and participants, and ways of disseminating research findings. Students will have the opportunity to apply this knowledge in a real-world context.

This course examines the different models, frameworks, and theories leading to effective leadership for organizational change in an increasingly global environment. This course provides a framework from which students develop global competency and cultural intelligence that prepare them for effectively enacting change while taking into consideration variables at the micro, meso, and macro levels of analysis.
LDR 650Development & Evaluation of Organizational Programs3
This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of designing, developing, executing, and assessing programs at all organizational levels. Theories and methodologies of program evaluation will be reviewed, including needs assessment and formative and summative approaches. Emphasis is on the exploration approaches and techniques in the context of “real world” organizational challenges, including the underlying influences of political and socio-economic environments as well as ethical and practical/resource considerations.
This is a culminating capstone course that provides students with the opportunity to synthesize the knowledge, skills, and abilities that were presented throughout the MAOL program and address real-world needs. Students will design, implement and present outcomes for a major project focused on stimulating positive change in their organization/community.
