Total Natural Science Credits 39 Total Core / Other Credits 20 Minimum Credits Required for Pre-Health = 59 Scheduling considerations: If you plan to go straight from King’s to a medical school (or similar), all the courses above should be completed by the end of your junior year. Such students typically take the MCAT, DAT or GRE test the summer between their junior and senior year. However, there are many paths to professional programs, including graduate degrees, work experience, or a year of service. Students wishing to apply to dental school may wait to take Physics in their senior year, as DAT preparation does not require Physics. Veterinary schools all maintain their own course and test requirements, so students interested in vet school should investigate the course requirements early. The above schedule will serve as a reasonable template, however. Students are encouraged to consider preparation for the MCAT/DAT/OAT as one of their “classes” the Spring semester of their junior year. Whether a formal preparation course or self-directed study, students should avoid taking too heavy a course load this semester in order to best prepare. Prerequisites for programs such as Nursing, Physician Assistant, and Physical Therapy may be quite different and likely include Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2. Most students choose to major in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or Neuroscience to prepare for health professional programs. However, any major with 30-35 hours required coursework could conceivably be a pre-health major. For example, Philosophy, Theology, Spanish, French, Psychology or Sociology have sufficient elective credits to be compatible with a pre-health program. In addition to your 1st year or major advisor, you should meet early and regularly with the pre-health advisor (prehealth@kings.edu). Effective 07/01/2026
