ELC 122Basic Electricity and Circuits4
This course presents students with AC and DC electricity including electrical fundamentals, Ohms Law, magnetism, current flow, low voltage, and power systems. Students are taught the various components of an electrical circuit, and how they interrelate and integrate into basic series and parallel circuits. Students will also use the basic test and measurement tools used in the industry to include analog and digital multimeters, megohmmeters, voltage testers, and analog and digital amp probes. Students will construct and test basic circuits in a laboratory setting while observing electrical safety precautions and guidelines.
This course presents the study of air conditioning and heating schematics used with HVAC systems. The course will reinforce electrical AC and DC principles and introduce complex circuit design. Students will study and work with various motors used as prime movers. Course JULY 2026
This course introduces students to low voltage wiring and conduit installation. Students will learn the fundamentals of wiring in accordance with the National Electric Code (NEC) and power distribution, while integrating these principles with building structures. The curriculum will include Lock-out/Tag-out procedures and electrical safety fundamentals. Students will use this acquired knowledge and apply these skills in a laboratory environment using measuring, cutting, installation, and testing tools.
This course presents students with the purpose, fundamentals, and theory of operation of motors. Course study will include various motors used as prime movers and educate students in the performance of motor shaft alignment, bearing replacement while revealing various equipment motors are used to drive. Students will practice electrical and mechanical diagnostics using test and measurement tools, which include digital multimeters, megohmmeters, and dial indicators. Students will also be presented with the use of belt and chain drives, reduction gears, and couplings. Additionally, students will learn the types of electrical control equipment such a Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), and Direct Digital Controls (DDCs).
TOTAL 600 24 Students attend class four (4) days per week on various schedules. Program length is 7 months (includes breaks and holidays) – all schedules. At the successful completion of the program, the student will receive a Certificate in Electrical Systems. www.auto.edu 18 JULY 2026
