MC601K Reformed Ecclesiology and Polity “The Word was made flesh, and dwelled among us; to that flesh is joined the church, and there is made Total Christ, head and body.” – St. Augustine. The various topics are studied as an investigation in ascension Christology applied, or Augustine’s Totus Christus thesis through the reformed trajectory and qualifications. More than a source of missions, the temple-church is considered as a locus of mission, or Christ vis-à-vis history, in our search for a missional ecclesiology and polity. Graded pass/fail.

sensitivity to the rich diversity of race and gender in the church. As society becomes more reactive to the ways that race and gender can divide us, the church must remain proactive in demonstrating God’s unity and grace. This course will help women and men to find their voices in God’s story while also lifting and learning from the voices of those most often unheard. Those willing to have courageous conversations are called to name the places of pain in the Body and look to Christ to heal, reconcile, and restore. With emphasis on in-depth discussion and critical analysis, students will have an opportunity to apply the relevance of the Gospel in divisive times. Students of all races should be prepared to be disrupted by our shared history and equipped to model restoration through our collective hope. Ultimately, this course is designed to strengthen a Biblical framework for justice and reconciliation across every barrier for the glory of God. MC/AP687 The Bible and Race The course is designed to lead students to a comprehensive theological understanding of the diversity of the human race and the accompanying ministry implications through a Biblical worldview. MC/TH692 Violence, Sexual Abuse, and the Gospel This course explores how to prevent, recognize, and respond to sexual and domestic abuse. Specifically, it will focus on how to minister to those who are survivors of abuse, how to respond to perpetrators of abuse, how to respond in a crisis, and how to build a healthy church culture before there is a particular crisis. MC701 Pastoral Ministry This course examines the call, identity, office, character, relationships, authority, and spiritual formation and maturation of the Christian pastor. These aspects of pastoral ministry are viewed from biblical and theological perspectives. Historical and cultural dimensions will also be considered. Items presented include the following: Calling, Identity, Roles and Expectations of the Pastor; Church Culture and its relation to the Larger Culture; Worship and Liturgy; Baptism (children and adults) and Child Dedication; Communion; Weddings; Funerals and Grief Work; Pastoral Care; Church Finances; Clergy Ethics; Sexual Ethics and Behavior; Legal Matters, Staff Relationships; Conflict Management; Leadership Development and Resilience.

available. Please contact Division Chair. MC/CL707 Transforming Leadership in the Local Church The elements of leadership in a Christian context will be examined from a biblical and historical basis. Particular focus will be upon self-understanding and what parts of leadership will be natural and which ones will need to be acquired. MC/NT/TH710 Biblical-Theological Ministry Employs lectures, case studies, readings, interaction among participating professors, and class discussion to acquaint students with the challenges and opportunities associated with biblically-based ministry in the coming decades. No prerequisites, but familiarity with exegetical method and systematic theology are presumed. MC720 Project Course in Ministry Independent study, any session by petition. MC744 Lutheran Liturgics For many years in Lutheran circles, the chief goal, the main tasks, indeed the purpose, of the ordained ministry has been described as "to preach, teach, and administer sacraments." Mentored Ministry (Division of Practical Theology) MM: General Focus of Mentored Ministry Mentored Ministry includes the field education portion of preparation for ministry for M.Div. and MACM students. The primary objective is to provide a context for integration of theory with practical field experience. By means of the mentoring relationship with the approved pastor (or qualified ministry leader) and the various experiences provided within the church and/or parachurch, students will be able to test their vocational commitments, broaden their empirical and experiential knowledge, develop ministry skills, nurture personal identity, enhance self directed learning, and engage in spiritual formation. Monthly or bi-weekly Reflection Groups for registered MM students will be led by each community’s Mentored Ministry Director. Pre/co-requisite: MC/SF501 or CH/SF591. Students who complete 3 credit hours of Mentored Ministry may use them to fulfill one concentration course in the MATS and MACM.
