DAT 201Database: Principles & Applications3
This course offers a comprehensive introduction to database concepts, design, and management, tailored for students in information systems, business, or CIS programs. Students will explore core topics including MySQL, SQL scripting, Query-By-Example (QBE), normalization, database design methodologies, and the fundamental functions of a database management system (DBMS). The course also covers advanced database concepts such as distributed databases, data warehousing, and XML data handing. Through practical assignments and projects, students will gain hands-on experience sing MySQL to build and manage databases. (Prerequisite: PRG-101)
This course is a continuation of DAT-201, with advanced topics of design, implementation, and use of database management systems. Involves skills in the design and development of information systems and their application and combines form and report components into a single integrated system. Students will learn to construct advanced query components and apply managerial tasks to report data finding for analytical use. The operation of functional dependence and configuration of hosted platforms to support a database project will be instructed in this course. (Prerequisite: DAT-201)
