transfer_creditGraduate Transfer Credit Policies With the approval of the Graduate Program Director, students may transfer between 9 and 30 credits based on the graduate program’s total credit hours (refer to list below). Transfer credit may only be reviewed for graduate-level work in graduate programs that are 30 credits or more in length. Course credit may be transferred only from graduate programs at regionally accredited institutions and only courses with a grade of B or higher may be transferred. Courses with grades of B- or lower will not be evaluated for transfer. • Programs with 30-35 total credits may transfer in up to 9 credits. • Programs with 36-49 total credits may transfer in up to 12 credits. • Programs with 50-59 total credits may transfer in up to 15 credits. • Programs with 60-68 total credits may transfer in up to 18 credits. • Programs with 69-78 total credits may transfer in up to 21 credits. • Programs with 79-88 total credits may transfer in up to 24 credits. • Programs with 89-99 total credits may transfer in up to 27 credits. • Programs with 100+ total credits may transfer in up to 30 credits. Transfer credit must be evaluated by the end of the first semester a student is enrolled in the degree program. Continuing education credits will not be considered for transfer credit. Once a student is enrolled in a graduate program at Saint Joseph’s University, courses may not be taken at another institution for the purpose of transfer credit, unless approved by the Program Director and Dean. Credit for Prior Learning Saint Joseph's University grants credits for learning and professional experience that has occurred outside a traditional academic environment, referred to as Credit for Prior Learning (CPL). The maximum credit count for CPL works in conjunction with each student population's transfer credit policy. Students' approved CPL and transfer credits combined total will be limited to the maximum allowable transfer credit threshold. Requests for Credit for Prior Learning will be submitted to the Registrar's Office, who will work with academic departments to determine course equivalency. Credits awarded by Assessment through American Council on Education (ACE) A student may be granted CPL credit for courses evaluated and approved for college credit by the American Council on Education (ACE), if the course meets the content equivalent of a three-credit course offered at Saint Joseph’s University. ACE recommendations for 1-credit or 2- credit courses may not be transferred to fulfill a three-credit course requirement. Credits awarded are subject to the same policies as those of any other transfer credits. Military Credits CPL credit may be granted for college-level coursework earned while in or military service if the credit is recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE) and if the course meets the content equivalence of a three-credit course offered at Saint Joseph’s University. ACE recommendations for 1-credit or 2-credit courses may not be transferred to fulfill a three-credit course requirement. Students may access additional information regarding military transcripts and ACE evaluations at http://www.acenet.edu/militaryprograms/transferguide The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) Eligible online bachelor’s degree students may earn undergraduate academic credit through approved CLEP examinations in accordance with university transfer credit and Credit for Prior Learning standards. Credits earned through CLEP examinations are considered non-traditional transfer credit and will be evaluated by the Office of the Registrar in consultation with academic departments as appropriate.2026-2027academiccatalog.sju.edu
transfer_creditCredits applied toward a first degree may be applied toward a second degree, as if the candidate were a transfer student, but at least 30 additional credits must be successfully completed for a second degree. Approved transfer credit may come from: • Another accredited college or university, • Or college level credits achieved in the areas of Dual Enrollment/ Diocesan Scholars/AP/IB exams. In order for credit to be awarded, Saint Joseph's University requires the course(s) meet the following criteria • Taken through an accredited college or university • Earned 3.00 credit hours or higher and the grade of “C” or better The acceptance or denial of transfer credit is not determined exclusively on the basis of the accreditation of the sending institution or the mode of delivery, but, rather, will consider course equivalencies, including expected learning outcomes, with those of the receiving institution’s curricula and standards. Final determination of transferable college- level credit is awarded by the Registrar's Office. Undergraduate Credit Maximums Bachelors Degree: 75 credits Associates Degree: 30 credits Undergraduate Block Transfer Students who transfer to Saint Joseph's University with a completed Associate of Art, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degree in the Health Professions from an accredited institution will not be required to complete the Saint Joseph’s University Cornerstone Core Curriculum. Credits awarded are subject to the same policies as those of any other transfer credits.
