The purpose of this course is to provide graduate students the opportunity for professional development and community-engaged support via the Graduate House Program. The Graduate House (GH) program is the "go-to" place for support services and professional development for graduate students and graduate faculty. In this course, you will engage in three focused activities per trimester: 1) Mentoring sessions with the Graduate House Mentor; 2) Graduate Journal Club; and 3) Professional development workshops. Learning Objectives: Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: 1. Engage in reflective dialogue and intentional goal-setting through structured mentoring sessions with the Graduate House Mentor to support academic resilience, personal growth, and professional development in the field of midwifery and perinatal care. 2. Critically analyze and synthesize contemporary literature—including peer-reviewed journal articles and selected books— during Graduate Journal Club, making explicit connections between theory and midwifery practice to support the development of praxis. 3. Demonstrate ongoing professional development by participating in or leading trimesterly workshops that build key competencies such as scholarly writing, professional speaking, project management, leadership, and community engagement, with the aim of advancing leadership capacity in midwifery and related health fields. - 47 -
