This course introduces students of the Massage Therapy program to theoretical aspects of Massage Therapy to establish foundation of understanding for application in the program and profession. Basic theory related to proper application of Manual Therapy methods, aspects of assessment, and the potential for modification based on special population needs are examined. The purpose of this course is to ensure that later application of Manual treatment methods are based upon a proper foundation, allowing for correct development of treatment skills. 117
This course explores aspects of the Musculoskeletal system and Kinesiology for use by Manual Therapists. It examines locations, function, and interaction of muscles in the body, particularly as applies to usage in treatment with Manual Therapy. Additionally, the underlying skeletal structure is examined, as well as connections between musculature and connective tissue in the body.
This course provides an introduction to Anatomy, Physiology, and Pathology for several systems of the body. It will cover initial A&P information, examine the systems of Skelton, Fascia, and Musculature, as well as well as introduce relevant pathologies for each system. Anatomical structures and Physiological processes will be examined for academic understanding, as well as implications in their use in manual therapy methods.

This course introduces students to basic aspects of Massage Therapy practice, in the first semester of the Massage Therapy program. It includes ethical considerations, basic massage methods, reinforcement of proper body mechanics, proper documentation, as well as establishing basic progression of massage therapy treatment sessions. Additionally, methods of assessment and select massage modalities are taught within the course.
This course focuses on the integumentary system and Eastern Thought. This course includes Anatomy & Physiology, Kinesiology, and Bodywork methods. In Anatomy & Physiology, the Integumentary system of the body will be explored regarding structure, function, and related pathologies. In Kinesiology, the hand and forearm are examined for a deeper understanding of the function of muscles and how they relate to movement. In Eastern Thought, the theoretical framework for traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine will be examined. In Bodywork there will be continued practice in general Swedish and Deep Tissue massage. This module also provides an introduction to Eastern modalities.
This course provides students with clinical experience, working with the public. Students will utilize previously acquired skills to be able to perform 50 hours of massage appointments required for the course. Students are expected to be able to operate semi-autonomously in their appointments, as instructors are present for advice and direction as necessary. 118
