ECHO 1000Echocardiography I 3 3/0/NA
This course will cover the history and understanding of echocardiography in a hospital and clinical setting. This course will also cover cardiac anatomy and basic EKG. Students will learn the embryology of the heart along with the pressures within the heart. The students will gain an understanding of ultrasound machines, knobology, scanning techniques and be able to identify basic cardiac anatomy on an echocardiogram. Prerequisite(s): BIOL2260 Corequisite(s): ECHO1100
In this course students will learn and demonstrate how to perform a normal echocardiogram. Demonstrate frequently utilized knobology on the ultrasound machine and proper transducer movements and planes. This lab will cover how to obtain images and measurements for an echocardiogram. Students will learn proper body mechanics for scanning. Prerequisite(s): BIOL2260 Corequisite(s): ECHO1000
This course will cover the principles of ultrasound physics and its importance in interpreting data. The student will develop an understanding of the parameters of sound waves, interaction of sound in media, types of resolution, artifacts, bioeffects, and quality assurance. Prerequisite(s): BIOL2260 Corequisite(s): ECHO1000 & ECHO1100
Students will learn the walls of the left ventricle along with coronary arteries, how to access systolic and diastolic function. This course will provide the student with the knowledge of how to evaluate different valvular diseases from an echocardiogram. This will include all normal and abnormal quantifications/qualifications for valvular diseases. The course will cover valvular stenosis, regurgitation, valvular repairs and replacements. Prerequisite(s): ECHO1000 & ECHO1100 Corequisite(s): ECHO1600 ntcmn.edu 218.333.6600
This course builds upon techniques learned in Echocardiography Lab 1. Students will learn how to evaluate systolic and diastolic function along with the severity of valvular diseases. This course will cover all the measurements needed to aid in evaluation of valvular repairs or replacements. Prerequisite(s): ECHO1000 & ECHO1100 Corequisite(s): ECHO1500
This course will build on physics knowledge introduced in Ultrasound Physics 1. This course will include Doppler physics, hemodynamics and instrumentation. The student will apply the parameters of sound waves to an echo exam. They will also develop a better understanding of interaction of sound in media, types of resolution, artifacts, bioeffects and quality assurance. Preparation for Sonography Principles & Instrumentation (SPI) board exam will also be included. Prerequisite(s): ECHO1200 Corequisite(s): ECHO1500 & ECHO1600
This course will cover cardiomyopathies, cardiac masses, ischemic heart disease, pericardial diseases, aortic diseases. Students will gain an understanding of stress echoes, transesophageal echoes, strain, 3D and imaging enhancing agents. Prerequisite(s): ECHO1500 Corequisite(s): ECHO2100
This course expands techniques used to scan and interpret a complete echocardiogram. Students will learn strain and basic 3D. This course will cover the machine settings best used for imaging agents. Prerequisite(s): ECHO1600 Corequisite(s): ECHO2000
This course will be a supervised clinical practicum that prepares students for performing echos in the clinical or hospital setting. Students will demonstrate their knowledge and ability to accurately image and access normal and abnormal echocardiograms. Prerequisite(s): ECHO1900
This course builds upon the experience gained in the clinical setting. This course will be a supervised clinical practicum that prepares students for performing echos in the clinical or hospital setting. Students will demonstrate their knowledge and ability to accurately image and assess normal and abnormal echocardiograms. Students in this course work at a higher level of independence than in the previous clinical courses. Prerequisite(s): ECHO2200 Corequisite(s): ECHO2200
