An introduction to music through a rudimentary understanding of the principles of form and the elements of music. Various styles and types of vocal and instrumental works are studied. Historical and cultural backgrounds are included to show their influence on musical development from Gregorian Chant to the present.
This course equips students to lead musically in public settings in individual and group contexts. Students develop skills in public musical presentations through leadership, basic music theory, song selection and adaptation, effective communication, and technological resources. This course may be repeated by students who want to continue to enhance their musical abilities, a total of 3 times. This course expects 45 hours of a student’s time per semester.
