Credits: This course provides a one-semester introduction to the fundamentals of calculus, with applications and examples selected specifically to be of use and interest to students with a major in Commerce and Business, or a career interest in business. Topics include functions and change, the derivative, differentiation techniques, the definite integral, and applications. (Note: Students who have already had Math 112, Math 115, or Math 122 may not earn credit for Math 116.)

Credits: Course Description Most US elections use plurality voting. However, there are a many other voting methods, and they don’t always return the same winner. This course explores the relative merits of various voting methods and their limitations, as demonstrated by Arrow’s theorem and other impossibility results. It will also examine the notion of fairness, specifically methods for dividing items among several recipients and desirable properties for such methods. Finally it will consider quantitative measures of power, such as the Banzhaf and Shapley-Shubik power indices. Applications will include examples from economics, politics, and international relations.
Credits: This course is modern introduction to statistical inference. Topics of the course relate to inferential techniques for one, two, and multiple samples. Both classical and resampling methods will be used. The course will also include the basic concepts of experimental design. A professional statistical software package will be used. Students may not earn credit for both Math 111 and Math 211.
