Credits: This course will survey the theories and techniques used by counseling psychologists in their work with clients. The course will draw on therapeutic outcomes research literature to discuss and practice skills that are necessary for helping relationships. We will discuss the ways that various schools of thought within counseling psychology have used the counseling skills and the evidence base for such applications. We will also discuss the variety of elements that influence the application of those skills (e.g. cultural and ethnic/racial diversity, family, and social context).
