ART 101Drawing I3

Drawing I is an introductory studio course designed to examine basic vocabulary of drawing skills and concepts. Using a wide range of drawing media, students work primarily from observation mastering the concepts of objective drawing. While concentrating on the formal visual elements- line, shape, value, texture and (limited) color, students explore such concepts as figure/ground, proportion, scale, positive and negative space, and systems of perspective, volume, light, abstraction, compositional issues and pictorial unity. There is an emphasis on communication skills for mastery of basic vocabulary, and process of evaluation and critique. Open to non-majors. Studio fee. 102 Drawing II (3) Drawing II continues exploration through drawing as an essential tool for the process and development of the visual language. Drawing is an immediate form of expression. Seen as an aid to painting, sculpture, graphic design, or as an end in itself, this class will explore drawing issues common to all visual disciplines. Working primarily with the figure as a starting point, students will develop drawing skills and attain competency of issues and a broad understanding of the role drawing plays in visual expression. 113
