American Government and Politics The constitutional structures and functions of American government are the foundation of American democracy. How have these structures and functions changed over the past three hundred years? This course will engage this question, introducing students to the institutions of American government and how they operate to address problems and conflicts. Individual and civil rights as well as the ways in which critical historical events have influenced our governmental system will be explored. The course will investigate the power of the government and of citizens and the dynamic interplay between individuals, groups, and government in shaping our democratic society.
Introduction to Urban Planning and Policy This course provides an introduction to the fields of urban planning and public policy and investigates their relationship to each other in the context of key urban policy issues such as housing, land use, poverty and inequality, education, economic development, environmental management, transportation, and community development.
