Note: ICD-CM 10th Revision and CPT-4 are currently being taught. 1 Students enrolled in the Health Information Management Program 3 (Medical Office Specialist and Medical Reimbursement and Coding 1 Specialist) are advised they will be required to complete and satisfy 3 criminal background checks and drug screenings to perform an internship 3 (if available) and secure a job in these fields. 3 MEDICAL SCRIBE 3 Program Code: CS.MED 3 Department: Health 3 Phone: 570-740-0472 1 Program of Studies Leading to a Certifcate of Specialization 3 Program Mission/Description: 3 The Certificate in Medical Scribe is designed to meet the 3 needs of the growing demand for trained medical information 3 professionals who specialize in charting physician-patient encounters in real-time during medical exams. A scribe can work on-site at a hospital, clinic, or physician’s office, or from a remote, HIPAA-secure facility. A scribe enters information into the electronic health record (EHR) or chart at the direction of the Credits physician or licensed independent practitioner. Scribes also assist 4 the physician or licensed independent practitioner in navigat- 3 ing the EHR and locating information such as lab and radiology 3 results. This degree will offer students an opportunity to pursue 1 positions as medical scribe, clinical scribe, ER scribe and ED 3 scribe to name a few. 4 A student enrolled in this major must receive a grade of “C” or 18 higher in those courses with the alpha-designation CIS, HIM and OMT. Credits Goals: This program provides the student the opportunity to: • To transcribe using the Electronic Health Record (EHR). 3 • To document procedures performed by the physician or any 3 other healthcare professional, including nurses and physician 3 assistants. 3 • To check the progress of and review lab, X-ray and other patient 1 evaluation data for comparison, and transcribing the results into 4 patient charts so that a patient’s record is complete and the 17 physician can make sound treatment decisions. • To record physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions, and instructions for patient discharge and follow-up.
