Spring Semesters) This comprehensive course is designed for students who are preparing to teach art K-12. This course examines stages of artistic development and investigates how creative exploration and learning occurs. Students study curriculum theory, construct models for actual teaching situations, and develop strategies for classroom management and evaluation procedures. Students have the opportunity to develop and model a lesson for their peers. A half day weekly field experience is included and provides students with the opportunity to practice and apply acquired skills. Registration required for accompanying lab. Fall Semester) This comprehensive course is designed for students who are preparing to teach art K-12. The course explores the philosophy, psychology and literature of art education as the basis for developing, instructing and evaluating art. Curriculum writing and lesson planning will be intertwined throughout the course. Students have the opportunity to develop and model a lesson for their peers. A field experience is included and provides students with the opportunity to practice and apply the skills that they are acquiring. Registration required for accompanying lab, AE308L in the same semester.
