6 courses with the subject METR, each shown exactly as we captured it from the college's catalog, with every element we hold. Where the wording looks broken, that is our reading of the catalog, not the college's text.
METR 106Metrology Practicum1
Work-Research Experience (minimum of 64 work hours per semester) Course Description This work experience is designed to allow the student to grow professionally, to identify strengths and weaknesses, to apply learned theory to practical situations, and to gain an appreciation of the role, duties, responsibilities and nature of the work that has been chosen as a career. Prerequisite 2.0 GPA and 24 credits completed in the Metrology Program. Text Metrology Practicum Handbook Composition notebook Objectives
(3 lecture, 3 lab) Course Description This course is an introduction to metrology emphasizing the theory and proper use of dimensional equipment, collection and statistical treatment of data, and blueprint reading. The intent is to develop the student’s interest and understanding of metrology along with a thorough knowledge of laboratory technique. Note Field trips may be required. Spring semester only. Text Dotson, C. (2016). Fundamentals of dimensional metrology (6th ed.). Boston, MA: Cengage Learning. Objectives
(2 lecture, 3 lab) Course Description This course is a study of physical metrology emphasizing the theory and proper use of applied mechanical measurement equipment. The intent is to develop the student’s interest and understanding of physical metrology along with a thorough knowledge of laboratory technique. Note Field trips may be required. Spring semester only. Prerequisite PHYS 101 or permission of instructor. Corequisite METR 110 or permission of instructor. Text Beckwith, T. G., Marangoni, R. D., & Lienhard, J. H. (2007). Mechanical measurements (6th ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice. Objectives
(2 lecture, 3 lab) Course Description The course presents physical and geometrical optics with applications to a variety of areas of measurement. Measurement techniques include mirrors, lenses, diffraction gratings, and interferometry. Note Fall semester only. Prerequisite PHYS 101 or equivalent or permission of instructor. Text Serway, R. A., Vuille, C., & Hughes, J. (2018). College physics (11th ed.). Boston, MA: Cengage Learning. Objectives
(4 lecture, 3 lab) Course Description This course introduces the student to the analog semiconductor devices and circuits commonly used in electrical instrumentation. The course then brings together various digital and analog circuits as they are applied in electric meters. This leads into actual electrical calibration and calibration laboratory practices and procedures. Construction and troubleshooting of circuits, documentation and control procedures, instrument calibration, and measurement uncertainty will be emphasized. Note Fall semester only. Prerequisite ELEC 110 and ELEC 225. Text No text required. Objectives
(1 lecture) Course Description This course allows the student to select, design, construct, and perform a measurement experiment. The project must demonstrate precision measurement techniques. Note Spring semester only. Prerequisite Sophomore standing in Metrology Program and permission of instructor. Text No text required. Objectives The student will be able to A. Research literature and develop a project and procedures. B. Perform measurements and analyze the errors and data. C. Write a professional report. D. Give an oral presentation on the project. Student Evaluation Grade will be determined from project completeness, report quality, and oral presentation.
