145 Hours / 7 Quarter Credits Course Description: This course builds on NUR400 Maternal and Newborn Nursing and allows students to observe and practice under supervision in an maternal/newborn healthcare setting. This course provides practical nursing students with entry level competencies in providing family centered nursing care for the healthy mother and mother with complications during the prena- tal, intrapartum, and postpartum stages of pregnancy. It includes normal and complicated pregnancy, labor and delivery, post- partum period, and the nursing care of the newborn. Also included is women’s health, age-related concepts, cultural considerations, and leadership and management responsibilities. Students will practice and demonstrate clinical judgment through case studies and practice scenarios. This is a pass or fail course.
145 Hours / 7 Quarter Credits Course Description: This course builds on NUR450 Pediatric Nursing and allows students to observe and practice under supervision in a pediatric healthcare setting. The course includes concepts of child growth and development, with a major focus on the fundamental principles of the nursing care of children. Topics also include the prevention of disease, and the more common disease conditions of pediatric clients, including signs and symptoms, etiology, diagnostic measures, usual treatments, and nursing care. Students will practice and demonstrate clinical judgment through case studies and practice scenarios. This is a pass or fail course.

This course proves the fundamental knowledge of mental health concepts and techniques for the beginning practical nurse. The roles, emotions, and behaviors in the client and the client’s family are observed for the nurses better understanding of his/her own behavior. Psychological and physical aspect of mental health maintenance and deviations are also practiced in this course.
