30 Hours / 3 Quarter Credits Course Description: This course builds upon concepts learned in anatomy and physiology, as well as basics of medical terminology. It will introduce the student to disease conditions affecting adults and their body systems. It includes terminology, etiology, symptoms, diagnosis, nursing care, and treatment of each condition. The course also includes a practical nursing focus on the key concepts in the care of patients with medical and surgical conditions.
30 Hours / 3 Quarter Credits Course Description: This course provides practical nursing students with entry level competencies in providing family centered nursing care for the healthy mother and mother with complications during the prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum stages of pregnancy. It includes normal and complicated preg- nancy, labor and delivery, postpartum period, and the nursing care of the newborn. Also included is women’s health, age- related concepts, cultural considerations, and leadership and management responsibilities.
30 Hours / 3 Quarter Credits Course Description: This course provides practical nursing students with the concepts and skills necessary to deliver pediatric care. The course includes concepts of child growth and development, with a major focus on the fundamental principles of the nursing care of children. Topics also include the preven- tion of disease, and the more common disease conditions of pediatric clients, including signs and symptoms, etiology, diagnostic measures, usual treatments, and nursing care.
30 Hours / 3 Quarter Credits Course Description: This course prepares practical nursing students to become advocates for the aging population in all practice settings. The course includes information on the process of aging, maintenance of the health, Activities of Daily Living, the physiological and functional changes that occur during aging, and the nursing interventions designed to maintain health and prevent illness.
30 Hours / 3 Quarter Credits NUR400, NUR450, NUR500, NUR550 Course Description: This course is a review of essential con- cepts and skills for practical nursing care of patients across the lifespan. Students will focus on concepts needed to prepare for the role of practical nursing. This course is designed to assist th student in the transition from the educational environment to the role of a practical nurse. The student is provided opportunities to demonstrate competency in meeting the terminal educational outcomes of the program in actual and clinical environments. Current healthcare workplace issues are examined. Licensure application procedures are discussed relative to meeting state licensing requirements for the practical nurse. Emphasis is placed on NCLEX-PN preparation using multiple learning methods. The course explores issues of responsibility and accountability for practice and continuing personal and professional growth and development.
