ITE 101Introduction to Microcomputers1
Examines concepts and terminology related to microcomputers and introduces specific uses of microcomputers. Lecture: 1 hour per week.
Provides students with a working knowledge of Internet terminology and services including e-mail, WWW browsing, search engines, ftp, file compression, and other services using a variety of software packages. Provides instruction for basic web page construction. Lecture: 3 hours per week.
Provides instruction in the basics of artificial intelligence (AI) including the complexities of AI, machine and deep learning, and neural networks. Provides students with a clear understanding of history, terminology, concepts, and mechanisms driving AI technologies. Explores how AI is applied in various occupational fields through a blend of theoretical knowledge and case studies. Lecture: 3 hours per week.
Provides a working knowledge of a commercial spreadsheet package to include design and development of a variety of worksheets, preparing graphs, working with database queries, macro writing, menu techniques, and decision analysis tools. Lecture: 3 hours per week.
Provides first-time users with sufficient information to make practical use of spreadsheet software using the basic of building spreadsheets. Lecture: 1 hour per week.
ITE 142Introduction to Artificial Intelligence Tools for Business3
Explores the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in business. Studies how AI can enhance efficiency, optimize decision-making, and drive innovation in business environments. Includes hands-on projects using AI tools and platforms. Lecture: 3 hours per week.
Incorporates instruction in planning, defining, and using a database; performing queries; producing reports; working with multiple files; and concepts of database programming. Includes database concepts, principles of table design and table relationships, entering data, creating and using forms, using data from different sources, filtering, creating mailing labels. Lecture: 3 hours per week.
ITE 152Introduction to Digital Literacy and Computer Applications3
Develops understanding of digital and information literacy. Introduces basic computer concepts in hardware, software, cyber, cloud, database, and operating systems. Includes hands-on experience developing word processing, spreadsheet and presentation documents. Evaluates the reliability of sources. Covers creating a simple web page. Examines topics such as social, legal, and ethical issues. This is a UCGS transfer course. Lecture: 3 hours per week.
ITE 153Artificial Intelligence, Ethics and Governance3
Explores ethical considerations surrounding the development, deployment, and use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Examines ethical theories, privacy concerns, biases, human rights implications, transparency challenges, governance frameworks and anticipated ethical issues emerging with advancing AI capabilities. Utilizes case studies to introduce students to ethically responsible practices and strategies for addressing ethical dilemmas in the rapidly evolving field of AI. Lecture: 3 hours per week.
Provides K – 12 classroom teachers with the knowledge and skills needed to fulfill the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Technology Standards for Instructional Personnel. Students will finish the course with a solid understanding of educational technology, including how to use computers, now to access information on the World Wide Web, and how to integrate computers and educational technology into classroom curriculum. Students will learn how to base technology integration decisions on contemporary learning theories. Lecture: 3 hours per week.
Covers instruction about processors, internal functions, peripheral devices, computer organization, memory management, architecture, instruction format, and basic OS architecture. Lecture: 3 hours per week.
ITE 228Applied Artificial Intelligence for Business3
Develops applied skills in implementing artificial intelligence (AI) solutions across diverse business functions through practical, hands-on experience with cutting-edge AI business applications. Emphasizes use of generative AI tools, strategic implementation, organizational transformation, and business innovation. Integrates technical understanding with business strategy, allowing students from both business and IT backgrounds to collaborate effectively on real-world scenarios through practical projects and case studies. Lecture: 3 hours per week.
Supervises on-the-job training in selected business, industrial or service firms coordinated by the college. Credit/practice ratio not to exceed 1:5 hours. May be repeated for credit. Lecture: Variable hours per week
