ARAB 2201 FDR: World Language Foundation (FL) Credits: 3 This course continues to develop students’ linguistic and cultural proficiency in spoken Levantine Arabic. Students continue to acquire the vocabulary and grammatical structures essential to living and working in the Middle East. They also cultivate their circumlocution skills to navigate and real-world situations. Communicative skills remain the top priority. The curriculum focuses activating large amounts of vocabulary and strengthens students’ working knowledge of Modern Standard Arabic.

Prerequisite
ARAB 2202 FDR: HU Humanities Distribution Credits: 3 Taught in Arabic. An introduction to three Arabic dialects, in particular those used in Morocco, Egypt, and the Emirates. Students learn the sounds, key vocabulary, and sentence structures particular to these dialects, and develop their listening comprehension abilities and communication skills. This practical course is designed to prepare students to engage in authentic interactions with Arabic speakers in North Africa and the Middle East.

ARAB 2202 FDR: Humanities (HU) Credits: 3 This course develops your technological literacy in Arabic and prepares you to be a proficient user of Arabic in the 21st century. You will learn how to read and participate in online forums, watch videos and comment on social media platforms. You will also cultivate real-world writing skills and acquire the ability to communicate meaningfully in Arabic script and Latin/Numeric-based transliteration. The curriculum continues to stress the communicative skills and is designed to help you grow your vocabulary.
