“Alchemy of Innovation” is a four-week Spring Term course co-taught between the Entrepreneurship Program and the Education Studies Program. The course combines experiential learning and critical analysis of constructionist pedagogies (Papert) & design of environments that foster creativity and development of ideas, and the role of these spaces in entrepreneurial endeavors. Through an examination of how these spaces work, in terms of the mission/focus of the organization, physical characteristics, and governance, students will be able to create systems that facilitate innovation and co-inspiration. Students will visit innovation spaces in Atlanta for 7-10 days, followed by intensive coursework in Lexington, VA. The course culminates in student proposals for a large-scale, interdisciplinary innovation center to support entrepreneurship that is informed by pedagogical best practices and learning theory.
