The course introduces the components in word/information processing systems to include identifying computer hardware, properly maintaining disks, using the mouse, choosing commands, creating, printing, and editing Word docu- ments, formatting characters using the Help feature, formatting paragraphs, formatting documents and sections, using writing tools, manipulating tabs, manipulating text within and between documents, formatting with special features, creating headers and footers in a document and creating footnotes and endnotes. 3 hours lecture.

The course requires students to spend 135 hours working in an office environment. Students submit electronic summaries of their activities biweekly. Students will secure an appropriate work en- vironment and will be under the supervision of an experienced supervisor/manager. The on-the-job supervisor/manager is asked to complete an evaluation of student performance at the comple- tion of the experience.
