Surveys important photographers, processes, and historical influences of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Lecture 3 hours.
Teaches the fundamentals of photography including camera function, composition, and image production as they apply to digital imagery. Lecture 2 hours. Studio 3 hours.

Covers best practices in imaging workflows, concept building, ideation, and steps in the creative process. Introduces students to working with multiple images in a series and as sequence. Provides students the opportunity to create and manipulate digital images and examine property-rights issues. Exposes students to a variety of software used for image organization, archiving, image editing, compositing, layer masking, the application of special effects, and outsourcing.
Provides weekly critiques of students’ work. Centers on specific problems found in critiques. Includes working procedures and critical skills in looking at photographs.
