disrupted microglia and macrophages, and amyloid beta plaques, respectively. Fluorescence microscopy was then used to visualize the localization and activation of immune cells across different brain regions. Preliminary observations suggest that surgical inflammation upregulates microglia and macrophage activation, identified by increased MAC2 expression; ongoing analysis will continue to characterize these changes and which regions they occur in. By localizing immune cell activation state changes in response to surgery in Alzheimer’s disease, this study aims to provide insight into region-specific microglia and macrophage responses of postoperative delirium to inform strategies on reducing postoperative complications for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.
