A study of what is known about our place in the observable universe. The history of astronomy, planetary geology, the sun and the solar system, the nature of stars and their life cycles, galaxies, and the structure of the universe are discussed. Basic observational astronomy including the location of celestial objects on the ecliptic, magnitude, angular separation, eclipses, and moon phases are covered in the course. Laboratories consist of observations through a telescope, using a planisphere, lunar crater formation, moon phases, constellations, extra solar planets, planetary motion, Mars stimulant soil garden, and what possible life on other worlds would look like.
