THA 105ACTING I2

This entry-level course in acting is an exploration of the individual's body, voice, imagination, and tools for communication. Using theatre games, exercises, and various acting methods, students will develop their tools while exploring improvisation and scripted works. These tools will be applied to the presentation of monologues and scenes. Students will be required to view live and/or streamed theatre performances. This course is subject to a course fee. This course is an entry level course in theatre history, its practice, and the creation of the theatrical event, exploring theatre's role as a central, social communication event. Through group and individual presentations, students will explore the roles of the various artists who collaborate to create theatre, how ideas are reflected in the conception and reading of a play, and how ideas about interpretation and aesthetic can be reflected in production. THA 205DIRECTING I2

This course is an introduction to directing theories and methods, focusing on the directing of actors in theatre and film. Through practical exercises, students will focus on both the directing preparation process, and the practical application of directing techniques as they relate to collaborating with actors, designers, filmmakers, and other collaborators. Student directors will study an overview of directing styles, the skills required in analyzing a text for interpretation, and methods of organization for creating a production. Skills will be applied to scene-work (using student actors) and the conceptualization and presentation of live and/or filmed scenes.
