PRS 185Freshman Seminar in Rehabilitation Sciences
This course is the first in the sequence of two courses designed to introduce students to the rehabilitation science professions and to the professional phase of the physical and occupational therapy curriculum. Students will be introduced to the history of the physical and occupational therapy professions, scope of practice, professional organizations, roles of other health care professionals, and the importance of scientific research and its link to the concept of evidence-based practice. Concepts related to the managed care and the changing healthcare environment will be explored as they relate to the healthcare professional and consumer. Additionally, issues of contemporary practice will be discussed and debated. Fall Credits 1

The Exercise and Rehabilitation Science BS is designed to prepare graduates to apply to most professional programs in rehabilitation sciences, including, but not limited to, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Athletic Training. The courses in the degree program represent common entrance requirements, but students must verify pre-requisites at all selected professional programs.
