Waterfall trails, escarpments and ridges, valleys, caves, grassy balds and meadows are on the menu. WILD 202Wilderness Ecology and Sustainability in Appalachia3
Credit(s): 3 Through reading, class discussion and in an outdoor learning environment, students will study biological relationships among living organisms, and will demonstrate an understanding of how biodiversity and sustainability are key practices to protect the wildness of the Appalachian Mountains. Credit(s): 3 Using experiential archaeology techniques, the outdoor learning environment, and American literature, students will explore the historical development of how humans have lived within their natural environments. With an emphasis upon the Appalachian frontier era, students will study and apply the techniques and skills used to produce human food, clothing, and shelter in the natural environment encountered by the region’s early pioneers.
