/45 contact hrs) This course introduces the basic concepts of Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism, and their values and practices, and emphasizes enriching the Western mind and facilitating inter-cultural understanding. It also surveys the basic concepts, values and practices of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and compares religions, their beliefs, behaviors, and effect on individual outlooks and cultural interaction. This course also examines key topics related to different cultures in the study of religions, such as gender, new religious movements, mysticism and spirituality and myth and ritual, politics, economics, environment, science, and media.
