SPED 406Diagnostic & Remedial Reading Instr3

This course is designed to prepare Teacher Candidates to identify reading challenges that students bring to the classroom. Specific emphasis is given to applying theory to classroom settings using developmentally appropriate strategies and related models of teaching. Special attention is given to a balanced approach to literacy; and, to the selection, preparation and organization of materials into integrated units of study using technology. Specific attention is given to the TN Literacy Standards and how they will be used to enhance reading skills. A level II field placement is required. Prerequisite: Admission to the Educator preparation program, Praxis II PLT, Passing Scores on Content Knowledge and Specialty Examinations.
