AST 111PRINCIPLES OF ASTRONOMY Four hours credit

This descriptive course is designed to present the fundamental principles, as well as the historical underpinnings, of modem astronomy. A subtitle for the course could be “astrono- my through space and time.” The course will treat foundations, the solar system, our sun and other stars, the milky way and other galaxies of the universe. Recent discoveries will be highlighted and the subject will be presented descriptively from an experimental and obser- vational perspective. Prerequisite: College Algebra or its equivalent. 150 minutes lecture and 110 minutes lab per week.
