COMM 100Digital and Studio Arts Colloquium – An introduction to
the skills and attitudes needed to succeed in college, particularly for students called to work in visual or media arts. These include an appreciation of oneself; one’s skills and talents; others and their skills and talents; management of resources such as talents, time and money; and an awareness of the history and culture of Milligan. Required of first-time freshmen in the following majors during their first semester of attendance: Art, Digital Media Production, and Graphic Design. The course features lectures, discussions, and field trips to area museums, galleries, and businesses, where students will gain an appreciation of the many art and design-related resources in the immediate geographical area. principles of interpersonal, small-group, and public communication with concentration on public speaking. Exercises in each area focus attention on individual needs and skills. Offered every term. Three semester hours.
COMM 180/180M. Storytelling for Business and Ministry – A course in
which students become aware of their own potential as storytellers and the power of storytelling in their lives and professions. Storytelling literature and history of storytelling are surveyed, but the practice of telling stories orally receives the major concentration. COMM 185Video Streaming and Production - This course is designed
to provide students with video production experience in live streaming events. This includes athletic events and specialty Milligan events as they e. Specifically, this course is intended for those students interested in he skills and hands-on training needed for basic video streaming of live events and field production. Producing, directing, camera operation and graphics operator positions are available. Canvas will be used to keep track of calendar events and production positions to be filled. Offered every term. COMM 284Digital Audio Production - A study of the processing
techniques dealing with both live and recorded sound. Primary concentration is upon the manipulation of that sound for radio broadcast, although consideration is given to live and studio recording. Content includes the understanding of the physical aspects of the creation of sound, proper use of microphones, sound mixing, as well as principles and techniques of recording and play back. Vocal sound production for speech and fundamentals of announcing are also covered. Offered occasionally. Three semester hours.

COMM 385Field & Studio Production. A course that provides hands
on experience in both controlled and live production environments. As live streaming, event production, and multimedia broadcasting continue to expand across industries—including corporate, nonprofit, entertainment, and worship contexts—students must understand both studio infrastructure and on-location production workflows.
