advanced-level speakers of Spanish a broad understanding of the history of the Spanish language in the United States, current usage and varieties of US Spanish, language policy, attitudes, and ideologies as related to Spanish in the United States, and issues of usage in bilingual communities, such as code switching and “Spanglish.” Prerequisite: SPAN 212 or placement. SPAN 430Spanish for the Professions – This is a language course
designed to focus on communicative competency and cultural awareness in a variety of professional settings both within the United States and abroad, including but not limited to: healthcare, business, law, public health, real estate, human resources, and banking/finance.
