Building on historical reviews and analyzing modern political and economic theories, this course discusses the implications of wars and revolutions in different countries and compares different countries in their responses to common or similar internal and external challenges. Wars and revolutions include but are not limited to: Opium Wars, Meiji Restoration, Russo-Japanese War, Sino- Japanese War, Indian Independence Movement, Great Leap Forward, Cultural Revolution, energy revolution, and information revolution.
