NETW 151Routing and Switching in Networked Environments
Semester Credit Hour(s) 3 This course introduces students to the foundational knowledge of routing and switching techniques utilized by enterprise networks. Students will understand a variety of networking protocols and advanced switching technologies as they relate to the workplace. Students will gain experience working with routers, switches, and various IP configurations through interactive activities.
Semester Credit Hour(s) 3 This course prepares students to implement, configure, and administer Microsoft Windows server-based environments. Students will learn how to install and configure server-based software, establish domain controllers, manage users, design and manage the active directory, and implement domain policies in a secure network environment. Through interactive activities, students will learn to design, implement, configure, and manage a Windows network that incorporates Windows Server.
Semester Credit Hour(s) 3 This covers wireless networking and technologies for remote computing in addition to a comprehensive overview of cloud computing and virtualization technologies. Students will gain insight into the requirements of design, installation, and configuration of wireless networks as well as practice troubleshooting connectivity issues associated with wireless networks. Additionally, students will learn about various cloud technologies, methods, and principles, as well as organizational structures for possible outsourcing to cloud-based vendors for software, infrastructure, and platforms.
Semester Credit Hour(s) 3 Students will learn about the current trends, threats, and issues related to securing network assets and infostructure. This course will provide an introductory look at the elements of cybersecurity, including technology and tools, types and attributes of malware. In addition, students will identify various types of network attacks, threats, and vulnerabilities. By the end of this course, students will understand security planning, physical security, perimeter defense, security audits, mobile security threats, and the implementation and enforcement of network security policies and procedures for local and cloud-based implementations.
Semester Credit Hour(s) 3 This course provides an in-depth look at various elements of network and information security, including basic characteristics of cryptology algorithms, and components of public key infrastructure (PKI). Students will learn the basic concepts of forensics, disaster recovery, and incident response procedures. Students who are successful in this course will be prepared for the CompTIA Security+ certification exam.
Semester Credit Hour(s) 3 This course prepares students to evaluate various information technology situations and recommend viable solutions. Students will learn commonly used techniques and best practices, complying with industry standards, to propose resolutions for complex networking problems. Students who have successfully completed this course, as well as all other courses within the NETW course designation, will be prepared to take the CompTIA Network+ certification exam.
